Kicking off Nerd Wars…baking cookies?

Nerd Wars starts on Tuesday! yippee skippee! can.not.wait. What is Nerd Wars you ask? Here ya go:
Nerd Wars on Ravelry. If you don’t want to clickee, its basically a tournament of knitters, who happen to be geeks as well. There will be different challenges, or you can opt to do a big dissertation project. Each tournament lasts 3 months. The first one starts Tuesday. The best part? why the teams of course. and team spirit. and fun geeky banter. I’m on team Browncoat. This is the team dedicated to the short lived series; Firefly and the movie based on the series; Serenity. These were masterpieces of the one and only Joss Whedon.

What does this have to do with baking cookies? umm, nothing really.

The boy’s birthday is a week from tomorrow. I decided to make cookies with our new cookie cutters to share with his class. These really are the coolest cookie cutters. Now before you get excited, mine look nothing like the ones in the picture. Let’s just say good thing we did a trial run. I’m a knitter, not a cookie decorator. Here are a few shots from our extravaganza. I’m sticking with the “kids helped me decorate them” as my excuse.

They were really hard to decorate if you frosted them first (all the little lines got hidden under and its really impossible to get it right). Then we experimented with tinting the dough first. Success! It worked out so much better. The hubby will gain some geek points tomorrow by sharing our mark 1’s with his cubes (just don’t tell them that they’re guinea pigs). Next weekend we do it for reals.

And while I know that Star Wars is classic and the ultimate geek love. I remain now, and will always be a Browncoat…

I am a leaf on the wind - watch how I soar.

PS. I will get an actual Nerd Wars post up, eventually. 😉
