I decided to go ahead and do one more round of Nerd Wars. I did have a lot of fun in Tournament the First. Things in my life may get a lot busier come fall, and won’t be participating for the next one. I decided to go ahead and join the Buffy the Vampire Slayer team (Team Hellmouth). I do still love Firefly and enjoyed being on team Browncoat. But since I’m currently going through a watch of the seven seasons of Buffy, I thought it’d be nice to mix it up a bit. I am of course staying true to ours truly, Joss Whedon.
***warning**Angel the series spoilers***
The project I chose for my big dissertation is actually a sweater from the Angel series. Its still of the Buffy ‘verse, and Joss. Also, I thought it to be a cool crossover since the character who wears this sweater, Jasmine, is Gina Torres (Zoe from Firefly/Serenity). I love love love this sweater and hope it looks as good on me as it does on her (minus the blood and bullet hole).
This is the pattern I will be following to make this sweater. It may be a tad different then the original, but I think it is as close as one could possibly get.
I have already gotten the yarn in the mail. I choose KnitPicks Swish Worsted in Pebble color, solely because of the price. I think the color is nice, not quite white, but not the yellow-y white either.
I have finished my swatches and determined that I am getting just under 5 inches per inch on #8 needles.
My project page is here.
What is Nerd Wars?
For the past 3 months I have been participating in Ravelry’s Nerd Wars. Here is my original pre-tourney post. I had a great time participating. I made new friends and also got to know some of my friends even more! I worked really hard the first 2 months. I have to admit I did fizzle out this last month and didn’t do as much as I had in the first two months. My heart wasn’t in it with everything else I had going on. I did manage to finish my dissertation project. I was down to the wire, but got it in. I may go back and redo a little of it as the cooler weather approaches. I am very pleased with how it turned out.
I am amazed at the creativity of my fellow knitters and I really had a blast reading everyone’s posts in the Nerd Wars forums. The projects were all so amazing. I especially loved reading the interview one of the other members did with my own team captain. All in character and just amazingly creative. (this may be a “you had to be here” thing).
I am very torn as to what my next step should be. Do I go ahead and set out for the next tournament beginning June 1? Do I skip this one take a little break and hope there is a third one? I’m afraid I’ll get burned out again if I do sign up for another 3 months. I did have fun, but I also felt a little constricted with what I could knit. Maybe I’ll do the next tourney, but not participate in the big dissertation portion. Also, I’m considering switching teams (umm…yeah). I’m thinking of joining the Buffy the Vampire Slayer team instead of the Firefly team I was on. I think I may have exhausted all possible knitting ideas for Team Browncoat (Firefly is only 13 episodes). The Buffy team has 7 seasons of material to go with. I have gotten many ideas as I have been watching the seasons recently. I loved my team members on Team Browncoat. I won’t know anyone on the Buffy team. Oh decisions, decisions! What to do, what to do?
