run m0mmacat, run.

I gotta say. Running just keeps getting more fun. The addition of Zombies and a playlist to my routine has really energized me. I’m not running much faster, per se, but I am running/jogging/walking/staggering longer. I used to peter out after about 1.5 miles. I’ve been consistently staying out for abut 2.5 miles, just to hear the end of that chapter in the Zombie story.

I recently downloaded the Zombies, Run! app for my phone. Besides the fact that I can’t get all the features to work properly on my phone, it’s great! If you are a little off and demented like I am, I think you will enjoy it. It tells a story, and you get to hear zombie moans to really get your blood pumping and get you running. Plus the makers are English. Nothing like listening to those accents, yum.

In theory, the app is supposed to intertwine your own music with in the story. In Theory. For some reason I haven’t been able to get my playlist and the app to talk. I didn’t know this until I had slaved for like 2 whole hours compiling a list of songs that get me pumping. So my way around it, until I can find some tech savvy person that loves me very much (hmmm, where ever could I find one), is to have the playlist playing and just pause it during the talking parts of the Zombies, Run! app. Since I’m not worried about my time or the amount I am running versus walking, it’s no biggie to just stop and press pause.

So what gets m0mmacat to run, besides hordes of moaning zombies and English accents?

m0mmacat’s quick and dirty running playlist (in no particular order):
Bust a Move – Young MC
Like a Virgin – Madonna
So Whatcha Want – Beastie Boys
Poision – Bell Biv Devoe
Baby Got Back – Sir Mix-a-Lot
Ice Ice Baby – Vanilla Ice
U Can’t Touch This – M.C. Hammer
Push it – Salt N Pepa
In to the Groove – Madonna
Lucky Star – Madonna
Material Girl – Madonna
Tiny Dancer – Elton John
I’m Too Sexy – Right Said Fred
We Didn’t Start the Fire – Billy Joel
Gonna Make You Sweat – C+C Music Factory

and my sprinting song…… Eye of the Tiger – Survivor. There I said it. Judge if you want. I alternate picturing Rocky beating the crap out of Mr T and Dean from Supernatural lip syncing the song. ADRIAAAAAAAN! Either way, I’m smiling and running like there’s no tomorrow…for about 5 driveways anyway.

Eye of the Tiger
It won’t let me embed it…so click, but come back! You don’t have to even know about Supernatural to think this is freaking awesome.

New kicks. I love my new running shoes. I thought I’d always be a Nike girl, but I really like these Brooks I have now. They are Brooks PureCadence 2. Last season’s color, PINK! I got them on sale. They were literally the only pair of sneakers (of the ones I was looking at) in my size and in a decent color (pink!) on the whole internet. They have more support for my arches than my Nike Free’s did. That seems to help me stay out longer. They are still considered a minimal shoe, and technically the lift is less than my Nike’s, but they keep a spring in my step. So there’s that, and they are pink. Did I mention they are pink?

Boy Dog seems to be getting a little better at running too. He still trips me, or tries to. He can not run in a straight line. He has to be touching me, which makes it difficult to, ya know, run. I will admit I get more out of the runs when I leave him home, but dude, with the Zombs after me, I feel safer having him along.

I’m hoping to be able to actually keep a running pace for a full mile at some point. Middle K is in a kids marathon in February and I am going to run it with him. Don’t laugh, its only a mile. I gotta start somewhere.

run happy.
