Nerd Wars Round Two, 4th challenge: Terrifying Space Monkey

Yes, I realize I am out of order here (challenge #3 will be posted sometime).
This weeks challenge was entitled “In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb”.

“- and Kaylee, what the hell’s going on in the engine room? Were there monkeys? Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose? ” ~Mal “The Train Job” Episode

If you haven’t heard, March is the month that comes in like a lion (blustery, cold, and harsh) and goes out like a lamb (mild and temperate). This month’s challenge pays homage to that saying. The Challenge: Create something inspired by this saying.
* Make something inspired by an animal or animal-like being. Werewolves need love too, you know!
* For those without animals in their nerddom, play off the hard and soft duality of the saying. Perhaps that gruff space pilot has a soft and gentle heart?

He was knit “roughly” using this pattern, adding some yarns to coordinate with his Jayne hat. He finished up nicely, although he did give me some fits while making him…I guess that’s just fitting to his character anyway.

In case you are just joining me, these post are from a knitting tournament I am participating in through Ravelry called Nerd Wars. It is 3 months long and in each of those months there are 6 different challenges (you can do as many or as few as your time allows). I am on the Team Browncoat and our mission is to knit with the Firefly/Serenity theme. Here are some of my previous submissions:
1st Challenge (Month 1)
2nd Challenge (Month 1)
3rd Challenge (Month 1)
1st Challenge (Month 2)
2nd Challenge (Month 2)
