This challenge was knitted more out of necessity then for the actual tournament. Lil K lost 1.5 pairs of mittens in a matter of 4 days. I had just finished completing these knucks for her and decided to make a hat to match, since I had yarn leftover.
Teambrowncoat was no longer in first (but top 3 still ain’t bad), I needed to figure out how to get this needed project done, but still earn points for my team. Enter the Prime Challenge:
“PRIME NUMBERS. A prime number has only two divisors – 1 and itself. The ancient Greeks (particularly Euclid and Eratosthenes) were interested in them, as were the Chinese and French in the 17th century.
The first 25 prime numbers (also all the prime numbers less than 100) are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 61, 67, 71, 73, 79, 83, 89, and 97. The number 1 is not a prime number.
Your challenge is to demonstrate prime numbers in a project. For example, it could be a prime number of yards (be prepared to show your work on how this was determined), a prime number of colors, or shapes that have a prime number of corners (triangles, pentagons, etc.). These are examples only – think creatively!”
I cast on 137 (prime number) sts. Did 2×2 rib for a bit, then increased to 157 (prime number) and continued in stockinette until the hat measured 5 inches from the band then began decreases. Made 2 little strawberries to tie in Kaylee from Firefly. Other Primes in the hat: 2 colors in the stripes, and there are 19 stripes. Here is my project page.
This yarn is unbelievable! and its Shiny!!!! I purchased it from a local dyer and knitting buddy. Its called Photon and the colorway is Gerbera String Theory Coloworks. I also purchased a different skein for an upcoming project for some gamers in my life. Shhhh!
